The Path to Joy
So this is how it feels to be a human at our lowest possible state. The realization that you are indeed nothing more but an insignificant speck in this massive universe swirling around, and that at any given moment a meteor could smash our world and erase everything we hold dear. The realization that you, alone, don’t matter. That no matter how hard you try, that no matter how much money you make, people you date, or distractions you take, you will always want more. This is the nature of humanity.
Until you realize that you alone can not make it in this world without the support of loved ones, no matter how much you hate that realization, you will never experience true joy. To those who have found that joy, it is your duty to help those in need and help them experience the warmth and love that you can provide with a few simple words or gestures. To show those who are lost and depressed the incredible radiance that is true, and utter happiness.
Some people will bring us joy when they arrive to help you, and others, though it may not be their choice, will show us the path to joy by showing us our mistakes and righting the wrongs we have committed simply by their lack of existence. By showing us that being selfish, manipulative, malicious, or monstrous, will never help you achieve that missing piece of your life that you so desperately crave for. That tiny part of you screaming at you like a parasite in the back of your brain saying “Why are you here? For what purpose do you exist?”. Sometimes these questions can never be answered, and sometimes we don’t realize that that’s perfectly acceptable.
For some people’s sole purpose was to show another the path to a joyous existence. And though sometimes, sadly, those people are often misunderstood. Yet they still radiate a happiness that spreads like a disease. Like an infectious string of inner bliss and peace that even though part of you may find obnoxious, you will still find a smile tugging at the side of your lips.
Occasionally, the path to joy will be found after an extreme loss that feels like it’s tearing you apart. A loss so mortifyingly terrible and utterly inconceivable that it will leave you feeling like you have a black hole in your soul for weeks at a time. Only after bitter mourning and endless tears will you be able to look past a tragedy and see the good that it brought. The beauty that radiates like a star. Like a sun ray piercing the veil of a dark cloud on a stormy day. And you will know the true meaning of joy through a supposed tragedy, where the real tragedy really lied in your heart.
The tragedy that if you hadn't gone through that turmoil that you would have lived the rest of your miserable existence in a slow burning hell. Where your mind and soul literally rot like a ball of dung, stinking up your life and deteriorating your being from the inside out. Where you constantly try to hide the stench that is your existence through addiction and distractions. But at the end of the day, you still will wreak the stench of a selfish, and miserable human being.
Now, those who have found joy should not laugh at those who fall into the tragedy, for if they do, they may have simply been masking the rot with joy, and are just as broken as the ones they mock. Those who have found this inner peace and tranquility should not retaliate when spoken to harshly by one who has not found it yet. Take pity, but do not look down on them. For you too were once in that place and were no better. Say a kind word, show them a smile, and help them realize that although the world is cruel, it is equally as beautiful.
